Breakfast club/afternoon café provision.

Brough School is committed in continuing to be a healthy school through process of whole school improvement.  As part of our extended school provision we are hoping to offer a new innovative scheme which we believe could enhance the community spirit.  The scheme comprises of a family breakfast service which will include hot drinks, cereals, juice etc, and an afternoon café service which will include hot drinks, juices, cakes etc.  As we work very closely with Brough Eagles Out of School Club the breakfast service will not be a child care facility.  The level of interest/funding will determine whether the scheme can go ahead. 

It has been suggested that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, yet surveys reveal up to 1 in 10 children regularly miss breakfast.  An appetising and nourishing breakfast may mean that children are:

Ø      more likely to work better in school

Ø      shown to improve their problem solving abilities, their memory, concentration levels, visual perception and creative thinking

Ø      half as likely to have blood sugar problems which increase the risk of developing diabetes or high cholesterol

Ø      a third less likely to be obese compared to those who skipped the meal

Ø      not tempted to eat sweets.

To enable us to determine the levels of interest please complete the questionnaire attached and return to Mrs. Marshall in the school office by Friday, 21^st September 2007.
