Happy Christmas

Text Box: Together with everyone in the school community paying to wear something spotty for the day, School Council managed to raise £520 for
Children In Need.

Well done everyone and thank you for all your support.
Text Box: Our School Council organised a series of different activities to take place throughout Friday 16th November 2007 in order to raise money for Children in Need.

All of the activities were greatly supported by all of the children but in particular the ‘Dress up your teddy’ competition and a ‘Find Pudsey’ treasure hunt.

The children were challenged to dress up their teddies in something imaginative and they certainly let their imaginations run away with them – with teddies dressed up as pirates, football and rugby players and even a belly dancing teddy!

At lunchtime, a treasure hunt was arranged. Lots of Pudseys were hid around the school grounds and children had to identify where from a photo of Pudsey’s different hiding places. On the back of each Pudsey was a letter which, when all of the Pudseys had been found, spelt out a name. It was Pudsey Bear! Of course!

The fastest time for completing this treasure hunt correctly was by Jack Brothwell and Harry Hobson, both in Years 3 and 4. Well done boys. They did it in a record 6 minutes – you must have good observation skills!!

School Council also held a bun sale at the end of the day. Thank you very much for all of your donations and as usual, all of the buns were sold out in about 15 minutes. Wow!

Text Box: On Friday 19th October 2007, Miss Gilbert and Miss Lloyd left autumnal Brough and headed to the much warmer climes of Bangalore, in Southern India. Why? Well, following a visit from delegates from the India schools in May, it was our turn to visit the Indian cluster of schools, as part of the UKIERI project.

We spent two weeks in India, absorbing the diverse culture, the hugely generous people, the flavoursome food, the contrasting schools, the fascinating wildlife and….the pungent smells!

We visited many places of interest, including the intricate, religious temple in Belur, the beautiful Brindivan Gardens, the exciting Mysore Zoo and the historical Mysore Palace. We were lucky enough to be guests at the Dasara procession – the highlight of a week of celebrations to mark the naming of Mysore. The local wildlife was as diverse as the culture - Text Box: we rode on elephants, were terrified by cobras and amused by monkeys.

The six cluster schools in the Bangalore area, showed us a variety of education styles, each hugely different from each other with some showing similarities to the UK education system. We witnessed the use of plasma television screens in lessons, impressive ICT suites and well-resourced classrooms in some of the fee-paying schools. Contrastingly, we also visited a government funded ‘slum’ school, consisting of four small classrooms filled with bare-footed, excitable children, which were surrounded by deprived families and homes.

We experienced an impressively diverse and fascinating culture in India and were lucky enough to experience some of the best features the area has to offer – an experience which we are sharing with the children here in Brough Primary School.
